Assessable course elements and course assessment

With OLAT you can carry out performance assessments of various kinds. In addition to the course elements that serve the purpose of knowledge transfer or collaboration, there are also a number of course elements that can be used for control or assessment.

On the one hand, there are those that are used during the course or semester and serve more for formative assessment, such as the assignment, the checklist, and on the other hand, there are the tests that are used selectively and primarily for summative assessment.

The most important assessable course elements:

  • Task (manuelle Bewertung)
  • Assessment (manuelle Bewertung)
  • Test (automatische & manuelle Bewertung)

Assessment tool

Assessable course elements are displayed in the Assessment tool. In the assessment tool, the correction (depending on the course element) and the actual assessment (passed/not passed, grading etc.) can be carried out.

Question bank

Questions that are to be used in the course element "test" or "self-test" can either be created when creating a learning resource “Test” in the course or in advance via the “question bank” (accessible for OLAT users with the role “Author”). Questions in the question bank that an author has created themselves or for which the author has been granted access can be imported into the learning ressource "test" when editing the test.

Evidences of achievement and Certificates

Evidences of achievement

An evidence of achievement is a confirmation of a completed assessment and it lists completed tests tasks per course. Evidences of achievement must be activated per course ("Administration > Settings > Tab: Assessment"), and can be retrieved if there are assessable course elements in the course concerned and an assessment has been released for these.

The overview of the evidences of achievement is available for OLAT users in the personal menu" and the evidences of achievement of one course can be found in the course toolbar under "My courses". Coaches and authors can view evidences of achievement via the assessment tool (select a participants name to display user details > "Show efficiency statement”).

Certificates

Certificates can be issued manually for a passed course or automatically (based on the course assessment). Settings under "Administration > Settings > Tab: Assessment > Section: Certificate".
